What you enter

  • Tariff / night
  • Nights
  • Rooms
  • GST slab (auto from tariff)

Method steps

  1. Taxable base

    Taxable base = Room rate per night × Nights × Rooms. Example: ₹4,500 × 2 × 1 = ₹9,000.

  2. GST (₹)

    GST (₹) = Taxable base × slab rate (%). Example: ₹9,000 × 5% = ₹450.

  3. CGST / SGST

    For intra-state stays, CGST and SGST each equal GST ÷ 2. Example: ₹450 ÷ 2 = ₹225 each.

  4. Invoice total

    Invoice total = Taxable base + GST. Example: ₹9,000 + ₹450 = ₹9,450.

  5. Worked example

Example: at ₹4,500 per night for 2 nights and 1 room, taxable base is ₹9,000 at the 5% slab — GST ₹450 (CGST/SGST ₹225 each) and invoice total ₹9,450.

FAQ

Questions operators ask

Direct answers aligned with the live tool on this page.

06Answers

Clear guidance for operators and buying committees.

02Has the hotel GST rate changed recently?

Yes. From 22 September 2025 the GST Council removed the old 12% hotel room slab and moved most mid-scale tariffs to 5% without ITC, with 18% (with ITC) for tariffs above ₹7,500. Nil still applies below ₹1,000.

03Is GST charged on the declared tariff or the actual room rate?

GST is charged on the actual price charged per room per night. The older “declared tariff” concept was removed in the September 2025 rate rationalization — enter the real nightly rate in this calculator, not a published declared tariff.

04Can hotels claim input tax credit (ITC) on GST paid?

Input tax credit is available on the 18% slab (tariffs above ₹7,500). The 5% slab for ₹1,001–₹7,500 is without ITC, and the nil slab has no GST to credit. Confirm your property’s ITC eligibility with your CA.

05How is CGST and SGST split on a hotel room bill?

For intra-state stays, CGST and SGST each take half of the applicable GST rate — for example 2.5% + 2.5% on a 5% slab, or 9% + 9% on an 18% slab. Interstate stays typically use IGST at the full rate instead.

06Is this GST calculator free, and does it need an account?

Yes. The hotel GST calculator here is free and needs no account. Results update as you change tariff, nights, and rooms; an optional email/WhatsApp unlock is only for the invoice-format kit.
